MI2 lab at Mayo Clinic, Arizona (https://labs.engineering.asu.edu/banerjeelab/) is searching for a postdoctoral scholar. The lab is led by Dr. Imon Banerjee, Ph.D., and Dr. Bhavik Patel, MD who are also affiliated with Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, Arizona State University. The lab focuses on cutting‐edge research at the intersection of imaging science and biomedical informatics, developing and applying AI methods to large amounts of medical data for biomedical discovery, precision medicine, and precision health (early detection and prediction of future disease).

The project is a collaborative project with Stanford and UC Davis and is supported by a U01 grant from NIH. Our mission is to build a flexible NLP toolset that can be executed locally at the institution level and will curate the clinical and patient-centered outcomes of breast cancer patients by parsing the clinic notes, radiology, and pathology reports. In order to test the generalizability of the tools and to initiate their deployment for data collection, we will partner with both Georgia SEER and California Cancer Registry, comprised of three SEER registries, and will curate the outcome data from two institutions representing diverse patient populations - Emory University hospital (Georgia) and Stanford Medical Center (California).

The position offers a competitive salary and benefits. The lab will support the documentation of VISA for international students.

The postdoctoral scholar will be working on two core research topics:

(1) develop foundational AI methods for analyzing and extracting information from clinical texts and imaging;

(2) develop clinical prediction models using multi-modal and longitudinal electronic medical records (EMR).

The scholar will deploy and evaluate these methods as clinical applications to transform medical care.

The position will start immediately.

Deadline: 1st Sept. 2022

Requirements:

Post-graduate degree (Ph.D. or MD, completed or near completion) in computer science, engineering, biomedical data science, informatics, statistics, computational biology, or a related field, with a background or interest in imaging
