Position summary

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Tom Franken's laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The project will investigate the micro-organization and function of the cortical circuits that parse visual scenes into meaningful collections of objects and background. We use a variety of techniques including high-density electrophysiology, optogenetics, viral targeting, and behavioral approaches in non-human primates. Required qualifications

Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred qualifications

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) in neuroscience (broadly defined).
  • Strong background in electrophysiology, behavioral techniques, or scientific programming.
  • Experience in animal psychophysics.
  • Knowledge or experience in electrophysiology.
  • Creative, highly motivated, and professional.
  • Well-organized and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with P.I. and other members of the research group.

Working conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.

Salary range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
