The Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA) in Lugano, Switzerland is seeking two Ph.D. students in the field of statistics and machine learning for forecasting. IDSIA is a renowned research institute in the field of Artificial Intelligence and is affiliated with the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) and Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana (SUPSI).

About the Position

The two Ph.D. positions are part of the Swiss NSF research project “Probabilistic Forecasting: Global Models, Gaussian Processes and Hierarchies”. The successful candidates will work as part of a research team that specializes in probabilistic forecasting. The Ph.D. projects will involve designing and developing new methods for global forecasting, automatic forecasting with Gaussian Processes, and hierarchical forecasting.

The ideal candidate should have a Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or any other relevant field. They should have a strong background in Machine Learning and/or Statistics, good programming skills in R and/or Python, and a clear commitment to achieving research objectives. Although not required, a background in Bayesian statistics and time series would be an advantage.

Benefits of this Position We offer a fixed-term, fully-funded Ph.D. position with an attractive salary package as per the Swiss NSF regulations. The compensation package will be in line with the industry standards.
