Tenure track professor of data science at BYU

Brigham Young University is expanding and developing new programs in data science.  Applications are invited for a tenure-track position to begin in as early as August 2023.  Data science faculty may have training and research experience in any science or mathematical discipline. They will develop a research program that incorporates data science as a core effort. Data science faculty will teach and develop data science courses. Research mentoring of both graduate and undergraduate students is an essential component.

Depending on their research focus and background, data science faculty will join one of the departments within the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences  (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics & Astronomy, Chemistry, or Geology). Starting rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants should submit the following: cover letter, curriculum vitae, names of at least three recommenders (one of whom can address teaching ability), and a research statement or plan. The cover letter should address how you see yourself fitting in at BYU and courses that you might teach in data science.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in science or mathematics and relevant research experience incorporating data science; demonstrated excellence in teaching; demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research.

Duties and responsibilities: Teaching data science courses and other department courses at the undergraduate and graduate level; conducting independent research; mentoring students at the graduate and undergraduate level; supporting university, college, and department goals and missions.
