The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at Newcastle University is seeking to recruit an ambitious Research Assistant/Associate in Statistics to work on EPSRC-funded project "Harnessing the Power of Stein Discrepancy in Bayesian Computation".  The project is Professor Chris Oates and aims to develop novel and powerful algorithms for statistical computation.

You will join the growing Statistics Group at Newcastle University, which has wider expertise in Bayesian modelling, computation, and Machine Learning.  You will also have the opportunity to interact with The Alan Turing Institute and the National Innovation Centre for Data. Generous funds are available for travel and training.

You should have demonstrable mathematical, analytical, and technical skills. You also need to be able to properly apply complex technical concepts and to carefully examine, consider, and interrogate what is presented to you. You need to be able to prioritise tasks skilfully and work to project timescales. You should be able to work independently and make decisions within the remit set by the Principal Investigator. You should also be able to work as part of a dedicated research group. You should appreciate that in order for the group to succeed, we must all be collegial, a team support network and appreciative that we all have induvial personal and academic differences and strengths.

We are committed to building and maintaining a fair and inclusive working environment. The position is offered on a full time fixed term basis until September 2025.

We would be happy to discuss arrangements for flexible and/or blended working.  As a group we embrace equality and particularly welcome applications from community members that are under-represented in Statistics.

To apply, please complete the online application and attach a CV and covering letter. In your covering letter, please outline how you are either working towards, meet or exceed all the essential requirements for the role holder as outlined below, and highlight any expertise relevant to the described project.
