03 Tutoring Fellowship Position at AIMS-Rwanda

AIMS-Rwanda is looking for three outstanding candidates with a Ph.D. (or a Ph.D. thesis submitted) in Computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline. The ideal candidates will have expertise in data science, with either a theory or an application focus, including strong programming skills in Python, R, and SQL. Competence across theory and application is a plus.

Responsibilities and Duties
The tutors are responsible for the following tasks:

  • Attend all assigned classes and tutorials
  • Assist lecturers with the following:

– Lectures and Tutorials
– Organizing, preparing, and providing additional tutorials as needed
– Marking of assignments and quizzes

  • Assist in the supervision of research essays

– assist students with structuring and writing research essays
– Identify and help resolve any problems with language (style, spelling, grammar, etc.), programming, and comprehension.

  • Assist with academic quality assurance

– regularly report to the Academic Director/Head Tutor/ Lecturers on the overall progress of the Academic component

– Participate in weekly tutors and Academic meetings

– Assist language teachers to assess students’ ability to read and comprehend spoken English in order to assist him/her prepare sessions at the appropriate
level

  • Complete administrative tasks as needed and requested by management

– Create and maintain a database of student grades

– Ensure students’ presence at the lecture/tutorial sessions

– Organize and maintain tracking of students’ selection of elective courses

– Keep assignment results and grades securely

– Coordinate schedules

Duration
The fellowship is granted for the period starting on 29 August 2022 and ending on 30 June 2023. This period may be extended if necessary by mutual agreement of both parties.


Financial provisions
The fellowship grants each tutor a monthly stipend of 1000 US Dollars payable to the tutor’s bank account.


Other provisions
In addition to the monthly stipend specified above, as a tutor you will receive the following benefits:

  • A return flight ticket to your country of residence
  • Accommodation for the duration of your stay at AIMS Rwanda
  • Food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for the duration of your stay at AIMS Rwanda
  • Medical insurance for the duration of your stay at AIMS Rwanda
